COMPREHENSIVE PERIODONTAL EXAM…. PerioPal (PerioPal LLP; periopal.com), a voice-activated technology, allows the dental hygienist to collect periodontal data using a “verbal script.” This “verbal script” consists of commands, abbreviations, and short cuts to record data efficiently while the patient listens. It can be used in any order that the clinician chooses—in a single pass for pocket measurements, bleeding, recession, etc.

There are now many systems available for charting. For voice, one of my favorites is PerioPal, which uses a Web-based interface to work with almost every practice management system.

Importance of Probing
Another wonderful alternative is voice-activated periodontal charting systems. PerioPal® (www.periopal.com) comes to mind. This system allows the hygienist to speak the probing values while probing, and they are recorded digitally.
